Kingswood Place is a newly built housing development comprising 43 residential homes and three commercial units. Built to comply with Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the project began in 2013 and is expected to finish by the end of September 2015. The development features attractive landscaped grounds, with each apartment including an allocated parking space and private residents access to Rosedale Park.
Surrey-based property developer, Vantage Homes was responsible for this project, and specified Cembrit Cembonit cladding, which was supplied via leading distributor of high performance cladding, PCP Cladding Ltd & Premier Building Products Ltd. The look of the development was important, and as such, a number of building materials were used for the external envelope, including cladding, bricks, render and glass. The through coloured sand Cembonit cladding complements the other finishes, and provides a subtle, neutral contrast.
Installed in a traditional manner, the contractor opted to use wooden frames instead of the more common method of aluminium brackets and rails. The cladding was bonded to the frame, using a primer and activator. This method eliminates the need for any fixings being on show, therefore providing a smooth finish to the building.

The residential side of the scheme achieves Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4. While this standard is no longer a Government initiative, buildings that are designed and constructed sustainably are still welcomed by the industry.
Cembonit is an autoclaved, through coloured board in 11 pastel coloured impact resistant boards characterised by an attractive matt finish and a faint directional grain. During the production process, Cembonit undergoes a unique impregnation treatment, which effectively protects against water staining and dirt, ensuring that the façade retains its attractive appearance in both dry and wet weather conditions.
The combination of colour stability, with a class 0 fibre rating to BS 476 part 6 and a class 1 rating to BS 476 part 7, makes Cembonit ideal for overcladding rainscreen applications. Randomly dispersed spherules of cement in Cembonit’s surface and variations of shade from sheet to sheet will assist in creating a natural looking façade. The sheets can be used for a range of applications, such as: rainscreen cladding, weatherboarding, window elements, fascia, balconies and prefabricated facade elements.
