The Office for National Statistics premises located at Titchfield near Portsmouth and Newport in Gwent have both benefitted from the addition of the Stokvis Solar Preheat systems, specified in conjunction with M&E specialist, GM Consultancy Services, and the facilities management contractor, MITIE.

Dave Willett, Senior Project Manager for MITIE comments: "The Office for National Statistics has a number of sustainable targets to reach and the installation of the solar hot water systems have been carried out as part of a long term programme to improve the carbon footprint of office buildings that date from the 1970s. Having had new Stokvis boilers installed within the main plant rooms at Titchfield we have then added the solar preheat on the hot water supply to both sites which feeds to washrooms, the kitchens and other areas.

"There are approximately 1500 people based in Newport and around a further 1200 at Titchfield so there is a big demand for hot water throughout the day. We therefore worked with Graham Morrissey of GM Consultancy Services, specifying Stokvis on the basis of his knowledge and the equipment’s past track record. Everything is now working well and this is a good news story for the environment."

The installation within the Newport Premises was carried out by PJ Engineering, while Limburn Boiler & Heating Services undertook the work at the Titchfield offices.

The latter contract began back in 2010 when six Stokvis R6539 Econoflame boilers were installed, along with an Econopress unit and a pair of C3A Econoplate plate heat exchangers; plus a pair of solar preheat panels. This was followed by the commissioning of two more packaged plate heat exchangers and another two solar panels during subsequent phases.

Then more recently PJ Engineering installed a total of 42 Stokvis solar panels on the roof of the property in Newport. In each case Stokvis has helped advise on the correct sizing of the hot water storage vessels, as well as all of the control and safety systems.

Stokvis Energy Systems offers a comprehensive range of heating and hot water equipment for all commercial applications, including the design, manufacture and installation of pre-packaged plant rooms that are frequently selected for applications such as schools, hospitals, hotels and other buildings with high energy demands.
