Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Cerámica (until 10th February 2018) also at RIBA North, the symposium will present innovative trends in contemporary architectural ceramics production. It is an ideal opportunity for architects, designers and anyone enthused by ceramics in building to explore issues with the most prominent national and international minds connected to design and engineering.

Speakers from the UK will include Eric Parry of Eric Parry Architects, Maximiliano Arrocet of AL_A Architects and Alexis Harrison of Arup. There will also be international experts including Martin Bechthold from Harvard University, USA, and from Spain Clara Vicedo from ASCER (Association of Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturers) and Antoni Cumella from Ceramica Cumella.

Through this inter-disciplinary symposium, leading architects, ceramicists, designers, engineers, industry professionals and researchers will discuss prospective scenarios and futures for ceramics within architecture. The morning session will focus on the theoretical questions and practical challenges raised by the use of earthen materials whilst the afternoon will delve into experimental ways of collaboration, production and prospective transformations of a primal material into complex hybrid systems.

Be part of a discussion that will illuminate the multiple attributes of ceramics as a versatile and phenomenological architectural material. Book your place at www.architecture.com/mouldingfutures
