Stop Dripping Taps Leaking taps on baths and basins can be a perennial problem for homeowner. Easy to ignore, a dripping tap wastes up to 4 litres of water per day therefore countless litres over time. Eliminating irritating and wasteful dripping is possible thanks to ceramic disc taps, which use a very hard ceramic material in the valve giving precise control and reducing dripping. Savings of up to 5,000 litres per year can be made in bathrooms using this type of technology. Stop Flushing Away the Pennies The WC is one of the biggest water users in the home, so it is important not to use the WC as a bin by throwing items down the toilet and wasting valuable water. The New dual flush technology – with a small button using four litres and a larger button using six litres – can save up to 25% of the water used against a standard six litre cistern, and saves both the environment and running costs. This water saving device is fitted on all Ideal Standard and Armitage Shanks push button close coupled WCs. Eco-friendly Bathing 20% of the water we use is accounted for when showering or bathing. Having a bath the eco-friendly way is possible thanks to Ideal Standard's Alto eco-bath. Instead of the usual 195 litres and means a saving of 15% of water compared to a conventional bath. Less conventional ways of saving water include using residual bath water for watering the garden and may well keep the vegetable patch going in the height of a summer drought. Showers Saving water in the bathroom is best done by taking a shower rather than a bath – the average seven minute shower complete with water restrictor can save between 40 and 80 litres of water compared to having a bath. Ideal Standard's top-of-the-range Moonshadow shower head is a functional yet stylish addition to any water efficient bathroom. Alternatively, if space is limited a shower bath gives you the choice of showering or bathing. Shower water usage is dependent on the length of time in the shower and the volume of water delivered per minute, this is determined by water pressure.
