An amount of EUR3 million ($4.10 million) has been allocated for the structural repairs and necessary modernisation work. The new field would be designed to become the best field in the upcoming Euro 2012 Championship in Ukraine and Poland. It will also meet the highest international standards and requirements of the UEFA for arenas of the highest category.

This is the fourth set of renovation program at the stadium. In preparation for Euro 2012, the whole capacity of stadium was increased to 41,411 seats. It includes a new roof and some general renovation elements and aesthetics improvements.

The design work and other preparations for the Metalist Stadium will be carried out until May 2011, with work expected to be completed in June 2011. The project will be financed by the DNC Group.

The stadium features a main and a spare football fields, six gymnasiums, health and recreation centre and a hotel for the athletes.

Metalist Stadium has been renovated multiple times with the first one in mid-1960s, second in 1970 and remaining in last four years. After the second renovation, the stadium’s capacity was enhanced to 30,000. The third renovation began in 1979.

A unique aspect of the stadium is its roof which can withstand an earthquake of magnitude 8 points. Constructed in 2008, about 24 major and 24 supporting abutments were installed which covered two-thirds of the stadium.
