The village will house 8,000 athletes and officials during the event. After the games, the athletes’ accommodation will be refurbished to create family housing, and more housing will be built on the 38.5 hectare to accommodate 1,400 homes and a 120-bed care home for the elderly on the site.

RMJM will oversee the delivery of the athletes village, international broadcast center, main press center, international airport, uniform and accreditation center, and main logistics center in India, where construction for the games has been troubled by delays and rising costs.

Working as part of the City Legacy consortium, which includes developers and contractors, the consortium beat three other short listed teams. Construction is expected to start by the end of 2010.
