The facility is one of the three publically owned and operated buildings in the state to receive the certification. It imbibes a host of green features which includes solar panels to reduce energy consumption. The building has also been equipped with a green roof which meets its cooling needs.
The centre incorporates pervious paving to recharge groundwater. The paving also helps cut down runoff which in turn, allows to decrease contaminants in waterways. Installation of a geothermal HVAC unit adds to its sustainability by bringing a 30% savings in heating and cooling energy as compared to a traditional air source heat pump system.
