The building located on 11 acres Downtown on Alabama Street, US comprises 51 bedrooms. Work will include refurbishments in the building’s bedroom and hallway which will be repainted as well as retiled. They will also be equipped with new furniture and furnishings including new chairs, countertops and linens.
Other changes in the structure’s look include incorporating hot tangerine and explosive lime green colour in the rooms instead of the earlier beige and other neutral tones. The current wooden headboards will sport a red and pink colour to create an eclectic look along with framed floral prints substituting bright children’s art.
Cabinets and countertops have been added to the kitchen with the disabled-accessible kitchen undergoing a complete facelift. New countertops have also been installed in the dining hall space. The colour scheme throughout the kitchen is violet and yellow.
The Ronald McDonald House house also features lounges, computer areas, wireless Internet service along with a small chapel and game rooms for kids and teenagers.
The project is partly funded by a challenge grant from the Plough Foundation providing $1 for every $3 raised up to $250,000. The house has raised $850,000 till date through a campaign started in November 2010.
