‘rotatED’ has been developed as a single modular entity capable of being turned on any of its seven sides to create an outdoor place with infinite possibilities for activities such as play, learning and performance within a sheltered, natural environment.
rotatED is provided as a base shelter with the opportunity for schools to select additional features from a range of external finishes, doors, screens, photovoltaic panels, and toilets, depending upon their specific requirements and budgets.
Graham Edwards, divisional director at 3DReid, says, “The concept has been developed in response to feedback from pupils, staff and stakeholders seeking quality outdoor space that promotes healthy living, environmental awareness, social interaction and opportunities for personal development. The simplicity of this creative and flexible design enables pupils and staff to use and personalize the space in various ways to suit their needs. No two ‘rotatED’ will be the same.”
Simon Payne, director at Blue Forest, states, “Meeting the government’s sustainable school agenda has been key in developing the concept and so rotatED will be built with environmentally friendly materials (Forest Stewardship Council Certified Timber) with the option for various renewables including wind turbines and rainwater harvesting.” Blue Forest is a UK-based specialist in designing and constructing sustainable buildings and luxury tree houses.
The standardization of panel design reduces cost and lead-in times, thus enabling the base build ‘rotatED’ to be installed in around 10 days, subject to site conditions and service requirements. This timescale particularly suits the main school holiday periods thereby avoiding disruption during school hours.
