This installation marks the first LED lighting project the university has completed to reduce energy and costs, and achieve sustainability.

SDSU has installed more than 80 Lithonia Lighting RTLEDs for general ambient lighting and 30 DOM8 LEDs for downlighting. To support the LED lighting, the university specified Acuity Brands Lighting controls.

RTLED is a high-quality, volumetric recessed luminary that delivers ambient white light throughout an entire space. It claims to reduce energy costs, maintenance costs and building’s environmental footprint. RTLED is said to deliver a 50,000 hour system life and a superior lighting environment, powered by an advanced Samsung LED light engine. It offers high color rendering (80+ CRI), 3500K color temperature, and full range dimming with 0-10V DC control. San Diego State University Architect Jeffrey Herr led the LED installation project.

Georgia-based Lithonia Lighting is an Acuity Brands Lighting that designs, produces, and distributes an array of indoor and outdoor lighting fixtures, lighting controls, and related products and services.
