The shop, designed by Chikara Ohno of Japanese architectural design firm Sinato, is in a 17-story building in Tokyo’s fashion-centric Aoyama district. The designer has positioned cylindrical steel pendant fixtures directly over each of the display platform. This is based on the idea that products will shine and look attractive if the light source is close by, rather than from the ceiling.

The unique lighting arrangement offers two shades of light above and below each item. The low hanging pendant lighting fixtures also helps fill the void between the high ceiling and the space below, thus lending a tunnel effect to the store’s interior.

The project is the winner of the Japanese Commercial Environment Designers Association (JCD) Design Award 2009. The JCD Design Award honors futuristic commercial environment design that showcases the exceptional talent of newcomers.
