The renovation plans include housing the Ninth Grade Academy within the existing school and the creation of added areas for vocational courses such as cooking and broadcasting. The county is also in the process of constructing a new school.
The renovation of the Stephens County High School is the second phase of the same project. The architect stated that the renovations would cost a total of $10.4 million, which would bring the total expenditure of the project to $45.7 million.
The stated amount of $10.4 million would be spent on site grading, revised paved drive, creation of a new exterior facade and new concrete sidewalks, which would cost a total of $320,000. About $1.2 million would be spent on the various additions to the building which include a front entrance, vocational administration and exterior works. A commons area would require an expenditure of $104,000.
Part of the renovation plan includes the refurbishment of the existing gymnasium including home economics and band, which would cost a total of $1.4 million. An approximate of $2 million would be spent on the conversion of a portion of the main building for vocational classes including the JROTC. About $2 million would be used for the modifications planned for the existing vocational building. A sum of $2 million has been allocated for the ninth grade academy. A 131,924 square feet roof would be added to the building, which is slated to cost about $1.3 million.
