The renovation programme included a raised roof and mezzanine in its central gallery. More than 2000 square metres of gallery space featuring six newly curated exhibitions are also featured in the newly renovated museum.

The revamp also includes access for disabled to the institution’s four heritage-listed buildings for the first time. A new entrance facing Constitution Dock has been created, which welcomes visitors to the sandstone building.

The Bond Store has been opened up to be included as a permanent display space, with all four floors in use.

The renovations are the first stage of a planned $200 million redevelopment vision. The whole museum had been closed since November 2012 with works in progress.

TMAG boasts annual visitation of 330,000 year. The museum opened its doors to the public on 15 March 2013.
