Richlands Elementary, Cedar Bluff Elementary, Tazewell Elementary, North Tazewell Elementary and Springville Elementary are currently receiving improvements.
The project has been undertaken with the intention to improve air quality in the facilities, including installation of new heating and cooling systems.
The renovation project includes new heating and air-conditioning systems, electrical upgrades, renovated restroom facilities and new windows in four of the five schools.
Old windows are being replaced at all five schools with the exception of North Tazewell Elementary, which already had new windows installed.
The school renovations are funded through literary loan funds authorized by the Tazewell County School Board and the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors. The renovation project is slated for completion by August 2009, according to school superintendent Dr. Brenda Lawson.
The county school system is managed by the School Board, based in Tazewell, Virginia, and the division superintendent is Brenda B. Lawson.
