The centre, spanning 91,000 square feet, is the first refrigerated food distribution facility in the nation to secure the certification. The building has been designed by Epstein architects and developed by Summit Design + Build.
The facility has been equipped with a host of green features such as a 750kW wind turbine, and a partially vegetated roof. It also sports solar panels which meets 100% water heating requirements of the building, thereby reaping energy cost cuts. Installation of a high-performance water recycling and treatment system adds to the sustainability. Use of various energy-efficient features leads to energy savings of around 60%.
