Being Betsey Johnson’s first-ever hotel collaboration, the exclusive Eloise Suite blends luxury and whimsy. The suite has made the six-year-old fictional character Eloise alive, who lived with her Nanny, pet pug Weenie and turtle Skipperdee at ‘The Plaza’.

Eloise’s suite is located on the 18th floor of the New York hotel and comprises two rooms, one for young Eloises and other for their parents. Johnson’s design captures the spirit of New York’s naughtiest elements. The suite is resplendently rendered in a palette of pink and black, and a signature Plaza chandelier fitted with pink bulbs casting a rosy glow throughout. Wall panels are candy striped with pink and white, and outlined with gold leaf molding. It provides a striking contrast to the black and white zebra-print carpet. A tiny kitchenette is also featured, stocked with candy and pink glasses.

A king-size bed adorns the suite with custom designed bedding – a bedspread filled with scenes drawn by ‘Eloise’ illustrator, Hilary Knight. The same pattern can be found on the bow-tied curtains. Accent pillows are sheathed in shams patterned with custom ‘Betseyville Rose’ and ‘Betsey Rosebud’ prints. The padded pink headboard sparkles and is surmounted by Eloise’s name scrawled in neon lights and affixed to the wall above.

Two chairs upholstered in Johnson’s signature rosebud prints are also featured in the suite for bedtime storytelling. The shades of the bedside lamps are adorned with similar rosebud motifs. Original Hilary Knight prints adorn the walls. The suite is equipped with a disposable Eloise camera for guests to snap photos of their stay and store them in the ‘memory board’, a glass-topped mirror for storing images of guests.

The Eloise Suite is also equipped with a wall-mounted flat screen TV and DVD player, Eloise DVDs and books, a tea set, Eloise and Weenie dolls, and Eloise robes and towels complete with appliqués of Weenie and Skipperdee.

An Eloise Boutique is also featured in the Plaza Shops on the Concourse Level of the Plaza, for fans of Eloise. The 2,100 square feet boutique resembles a playhouse and features Eloise-themed merchandise ranging from dolls and costumes to books and bathrobes. The boutique is equipped with a Fashion Room, where children can dress up in costumes and model their favorite looks on a stage as well as a Library, where guests can watch their favorite Eloise movies or read an Eloise book. The boutique also features a space to host tea and birthday parties.

The ‘Eloise’ books debuted in 1955, and documented the antics of the titular pint-sized heroine in her hotel home.
