Troy Adams is best known for his FusionDesign concept, which marries European minimalism and high-tech appliances, with American principles of open space living and the Zen qualities and natural materials evident in Asian cultures.
Two instances of Troy Adams’ FusionDesign in action are an island-inspired kitchen and living room, and a contemporary circular kitchen in California.
The island-inspired kitchen and living room features Asian elements of red pyrolave countertop for the Lazy Susan and Bruck pendant lights over the raised bar; European elements include a Miele ventilation over the island and a Miele 30 inch oven, coffee system and plate warmer; American elements include a signature California indoor/outdoor floor plan, with sliding door disappearing into the wall. Pyrolave is an enameled lava-glazed stone used for surface materials.
The contemporary, circular kitchen in California presents Asian elements of red pyrolave countertop on the island and 3-form material used at the back of the island, featuring red bamboo; European elements of high-tech stainless steel appliances, including a Gaggenau cooktop, and circular ventilation hoods by Franke and Miele double oven and warming drawer in a tall cabinet, and an American open floor plan. At first the kitchen was a standard, cramped u-shape with an island. Adams opened the kitchen up to the adjacent living area by making it circular with only a breakfast bar dividing it from the rest of the home.
