Part of an ongoing research of Vallo Sadovsky Architects on how people can influence and modify the urban space using small architectural objects and furniture, the BA_LIK pavilion is composed of five wheeled elements that can be configured as exhibition or performance spaces.
During the summer months, the pavilion can be used for various cultural activities, such as theater performance, concert or a photography exposition. The structure of the pavilion can be changed depending on the show. When there is no particular event taking place, the pavilion becomes a modern city furniture, lending a young, contemporary identity to the square.
The BA-LIK pavilion is one out of several projects overseen by City Intervention project, a long running initiative founded by Bratislavian architects Matúš Vallo and Oliver Sadovský, which invites young architects to propose feasible architectural solutions to various problems and neglected spaces in Bratislava, with the hope that within an urban context, small changes can create big effects.
So far the project has seen the inclusion of almost 40 architecture studios and individuals, which have produced a total of 49 architectonic designs. The project is a challenge to the local municipal government and autonomous boroughs of Bratislava alike. The general partner of the project is the developer group Grunt.
