Hightex will construct the stadium’s roof, in consortium with Cimolai SpA of Italy, and Mostostal Zabrze Holding Sp Z.o.o. of Poland. The contract value for the roof integration is EUR78 million ($110 million approx.).
A radial cable system has been provided to support the fixed outer portion of the stadium, which consists of 55,000 square meters of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-glass membrane. The retractable inner roof will feature the more flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC/polyester) membrane, covering a surface area of some 11,000 square meters.
The polyester membrane opens and closes by sliding vertically, and is stored in the garage when opened. Design work on the inner fabric is estimated to begin immediately and is slated for completion by April 2011.
Hightex is engaged in designing and creating tensile membrane structures for architectural purposes.
