The renovation work saw the gallery merge with the library next door, and has increased gallery space by 78%. Belgian architect Robbrecht en Daem was in charge of this massive project along with London practice Witherford Watson Mann. Additional input came from collaborative work with artist Rachel Whiteread.
Design Week reports that the gallery’s interiors and exhibition space were overseen by a design team including Project Orange, Artek, Jason Bruges Studio, Dunnett Craven, Holmes Wood and Kvadrat: Furnishings in public areas were supplied by Finnish furniture company Artek, and Project Orange created the Dining Room.
Exterior lighting is from Jason Bruges Studio, whose new scheme for the gallery will give a sense of unity to the two facades of the building. Design Week also reports that signage consultancy Holmes Wood created the environmental graphics for the gallery, including external and internal wayfinding schemes. This extends Spin’s branding into a three-dimensional solution within the space.
