Hand-sculpted and fired at three renowned studios in Italy, the lamps in the Italian Collezione feature various ceramics used by Italian artisans, including terracotta, earthenware and porcelain.
Long associated with the masters of Italian ceramic art, Wildwood has created hundreds of lamps inspired by fine Italian ceramics including historical figurines and vases. Fascinated by the current landscape of ceramic Italian art, Wildwood Designer Derec Roache designed each lamp in this collection and closely oversaw production, which occurred at three expertly-chosen Italian studios. Roache stated that he designed each lamp as a piece of sculpture that will light up the room, both literally and in its design presence.
The terracotta featured in the lamps of the Italian Collezione is sourced from an Italian studio that specializes in garden pottery made from Impruneta clay. This weather-resistant material was used for the roof tiles of the Dome of Florence years ago, which still remain intact. Available in red, gray and white, all lamp bases are hand thrown on a wheel. After the clay is fired, the lamps are finished with delicate silver leaf, gold leaf or other decorative finishes.
The second studio uses mainly earthenware for the lamps, which is cast into a mould or hand thrown on a potter’s wheel. White clay is fired and then glazed in a solid color or hand painted. This studio also has the capability to create ceramic shapes in bright metallic silver.
Terracotta from Florence is used to sculpt the curvaceous, textured base of the Zuchette Lamp. A metallic gold covering is applied to white clay for a stunning appearance. A sophisticated linen shade and contemporary finial adds versatility.
Earthenware and terracotta unite in the Raccolta Lamp sculpted by an artisan, featuring grapes draped along its shoulder. The Raccolta Lamp is an exquisite piece of art that delivers true Italian charm.
The Nunzio Lamp brings old world elegance to the new world. Handcrafted from glazed earthenware, this striking lamp features a heavily-textured surface in a warm neutral tone. A shallow drum-shaped linen shade with a matching ball finial makes this authentic design perfect for today’s transitional interiors.
The Gisella Lamp features delicate spiral handles on a classic vase shape for a casually-elegant design. Hand spun using glazed earthenware, this Italian lamp is topped with a semi drum-shaped shade that is gracefully curved on each side. An old gold antique mounting and matching finial add subtle shine and interest.
A uniformly deep textured surface and rich brown glaze make the Urbano Lamp a timeless piece with an enduring heritage. Inspired by a classic flower vase, this handcrafted lamp is finished with a golden silk shade. Antique gold leaf decorates the mounting and finial for a cohesive finishing touch.
The Pietra Blanca Lamp is sculpted from hand-thrown terracotta in white clay for a chic, uniquely shaped base. A slightly-tapered linen shade with a wide band across the top and bottom lend modern appeal.
Every lamp from the Italian Collezione is assembled at Wildwood and shade designs are chosen by Roache and the Wildwood design team.
