The Airport Library, a joint initiative of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and the Dutch Public Libraries, was officially opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands on 25 August 2010.
The library, with literature, music and movies, offers airport passengers an opportunity to read books in 29 languages. The facility is located behind the passport control at the renovated and enlarged Holland Boulevard, the entrance between the E and F Pier. The Holland Boulevard opens daily half hours before departure of the first flight and closes half hour after departure of the last flight.
The content of the Airport Library comes from the collection of the Dutch Public Libraries and is particularly special for its offer of Dutch literature.
Holland Boulevard has been designed to offer a space where millions of passengers can enjoy a pleasant stay. In order to create a feel-at-home ambience, the space is equipped with ‘living rooms’ featuring cosy spaces, fireplaces, television sets and a piano. A Babycare Lounge is also featured along with a ‘KidsForest’, where younger children can play.
Holland Boulevard also featured catering outlets, shops and facilities. Rijksmuseum Schiphol offers passengers an opportunity to view original Dutch master paintings at no charge and can make purchases at a contemporary Dutch Design outlet.
