The project secured by Brecksville’s sports field specialty contractor Sports Construction Group L.L.C. involves installing a Shaw Sportexe PowerBlade HP+ synthetic turf system which integrates the natural grass look and the performance of modern synthetic turf. The system will help improve speed and performance as well as ensures optimum player safety. The firm has also incorporated the system in the indoor practice facility for athletes, YSU’s Watson and Tressel Training Site.
The Beede Field will graphically display a Pete the Penguin at midfield along with red end zones. It will comprise the word “Penguins” painted in white and will feature a black outline. The WATTS will showcase a red “Y” at midfield along with “Penguins” in the end zone.
The new turf will take the place of the SprinTurf synthetic field installed in May 2002. The project will be financed by a reserve plant fund committed entirely for replacing the stadium’s turf. Work is scheduled to be over by early June 2011.
