Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr hospital is being built on the outskirts of Ystrad Mynach, and will be the latest stage of the Clinical Futures programme initiated to modernise hospital services across Gwent.
Serving the whole of the county borough of Caerphilly, the Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr hospital is inspired by a design that features columns supporting most of the hospital. Providing a range of services, it will feature 269 beds, all within single rooms, including 53 in its mental health unit; a Local Emergency Centre providing 24/7 minor injuries care and facilities for stabilising patients who may need to be transferred to an acute hospital; outpatient facilities; and a range of diagnostic, imaging and therapy services and routine surgical procedures.
It will also feature more than 600 car parking spaces underneath, at ground level; Integrated Mental Health Unit; Midwifery Led Maternity unit; rehabilitation facilities with access to a full range of therapy services including hydrotherapy pool; dedicated Stroke Unit; and Community Dental Service.
The hospital is employing flat pack construction technique with a lot of the building comprising modular units, enabling faster construction.
