The iconic 11-story Spiral Tower will measure 20,650 square meter. The tower, which acts as a striking counterpoint to Edifci Campus, features irregularly aligned floors, sea views and large open roof and terrace spaces. It is expected to be completed within 18 months.
The building is designed to resemble a huge stack of books, each representing a floor. The tower will feature ample outdoor spaces and garden. The building will be almost entirely clad in glass, offering sea views and capturing daylight. The campus will comprise an auditorium, shopping malls, teaching facilities and a series of public spaces on the ground floor.
The design is fluid in nature by combining the typology of the tower and the podium into a seamless piece. Planks are used to lift the tower from the street level giving away space for civic / public uses. The spiral movement of the tower blends a variety of public spaces and links the campus through the courtyards.
The continuous, ‘choreographed’, spiral movement ‘weaves’ a series of public spaces, connecting the campus through the courtyards and under the cantilevers, to the forum beyond.
The campus is situated in proximity to Forum Building, which is an architectural landmark in Barcelona designed by the Swiss architects Jaques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron. The tower’s design compliments the Forum and the surrounding area.
